What is Columbus Day Weekend? To most, Columbus Day Weekend is that last long weekend when you might be able to justify dragging the grill and cooler out for one last barbeque. But to a select few people, the second weekend in October is about much more than burgers, brews, football and some Spanish guy “discovering” inhabited land. This weekend is all about plastic… Fast Plastic. This is the NCT.
Fast Plastic’s 2-day NCT is by far the most grueling and talent laden Wiffleball tournament around. Twenty-eight teams, each in at least the top 5 in their region, battle it out in Austin, TX for the crown of all Wiffle crowns, the Fast Plastic National Championship. This year’s tournament saw a change in venue which vastly changed the look of the tournament but in spite of that and the unseasonably cold and wet weather the atmosphere was still as intense as ever. Last night was the first of many nights with the spotlight on Big League Wiffle Ball in the local Worcester bar scene. Here at Big League Wiffle Ball and soon Big League Games, we have been given the opportunity to host beirut and flip cup tournaments in local bars to gain exposure to our leagues.
Tonight is round 2! Come join us at Mahoney’s Pub on Park Ave, in Worcester Massachusetts.
Another fantastic day of wiffle took place Oct. 10th in Medway, MA. 16 Teams showed up…1 team left with a trophy. As usual the field was filled with talent, and there were no easy roads towards victory. Even the powerhouses of DOOM, Absolute Gunners, and Blue Razrs fell short this time. Through hours of competition, four teams remained: DOOM, Absolute Gunners, Krusty’s Kids, and Boondock Saints. While the Absolute Gunners battled for a one-run, hard faught semi-final win over the Boondock Saints, DOOM was being shut out by Krusty’s Kids. The final matchup was the Absolute Gunners v.s. Krusty’s Kids. Although pitcher Matt McHugh held Krusty’s to just one run in the finals, it wasn’t enough as Nick Amato held the Gunners to zero runs and led his team to a 1st place title. Congratulations to Krusty’s Kids, Absolute Gunners, DOOM, and Boondock Saints for their wonderful performances. Thank you to all the teams for their support and making another great BLWB tournament.

At Embry-Riddle, The FLOCK, is hosting an event October 16-18, 2009 to raise money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. To promote our Dig For A Cure volleyball match we are hosting the WORLD’S LONGEST GAME OF WIFFLE BALL. The current world record is 30 hours, and we plan to demolish that time with a 43 hour game. Our application to the Guinness Book of World Records has been approved, and we have been working with the local chapter of Susan G. Komen for a month now planning the event.
