Wiffle in Missouri (I think)

Here’s an email I got from our buddy Jared, from Illinois. I think he’s from Illinois. Although, he was signed by the Risers of GSWL St. Louis. Also, here’s a sample of video from Jared. He goes by atpblues on youtube.com…check out his channel for more cool videos.

“My wiffle scene usually consists of me having to drive but there is some local leagues/tornys we can get into. Windy City Wiffle Ball League is a league i’m apart of but I just play for one of their teams I’m not an owner or a long time league member. This year me and my teammate Matt Richardson who I’ve been play wiffle with for about 6-7 years will be playing for the GSWL risers in the STL region and that starts in about a week. League wise things are hard to find which is why we have to travel to STL to get into anything really competitive but we do like our chances this year with our team in GSWL.
I mentioned leagues are hard to find but tournaments are even harder to find around here. There are only 3 tournaments I can think of that are under an hour away from us, one of which was 2 weekends ago in a 2v2 tournament where we placed 2nd. The other ones aren’t for a very long time away…I think in August. Most of the tornys around here involve either wiffle up (which is usually one per summer and 2 in STL), wiffle federation (which isn’t fast pitch its slow pitch wiffle which is like a modified HR derby but this year they have included modified pitch which is basically big league rules), and some other random tornys that have just a wide array of rules.
As far as my team goes there are only 3 of us now and thats me, Matt Richardson, and Alex Kowalcyzk. We use to be on our team called High Heat (we also have combined with another team in our area DGA with Derek Radek and Tony Dawson and played as the 630 allstars with them in some tornys). This year we were signed with a STL team run by current GSWL STL regional director Jim Powell and thats who we will be playing with this year.”

Sox vs. Yanks 5/17/2010

GFY…You should be watching the game right now, not reading this blog entry. Actually, i should be watching the damn game too. However, it’s top 5, yanks are up 6-2. do i want to put myself through the misery, as i have the past 2 days?? Yes i do…because I’m a fan and I have faith that Tito will bench Ortiz tonight because he sucks. He can’t do a god damn thing without Manny carrying him. Big Papi…nice guy, terrible hitter….sorry, have to be honest.

Wiffle Ball: The Ultimate Guide

The long awaited Wiffle Ball: The Ultimate Guide has hit the shelves!!

Big League Wiffle is a huge fan. Right off the bat, we love the sexy, glossy raised cover…with a cool inner flap that acts as a bookmark. Not that we needed the bookmark because we tore through it in one sitting.

Very well done, on the whole. Great pics, great stories, helpful info. A lot of notable characters get some well deserved attention: Lou Levesque, Rob Piervinanzi, Mike Allesie, Mike Palinczar, Adam Trotta to name a few.

Naturally and deservedly, DOOM got a nice chunk of coverage. Well played.  No offense to Trotta and Togg, but I think Dallas’ role was down-played a bit.  Can’t really speak for other platforms, but Dallas is a force in the medium-pitch arena at BLWB.

Michael Hermann performed enough rigorous research to provide history and tidbits that BLWB hadn’t heard before.  Kudos, because we consider ourselves to be pretty well versed on the topic.

Another awesome inclusion: the league/tournament directory.  Extensive national listing of the best wiffle in the country. We’re proud to be listed along with GoldenStick, WiffleUp, NEWA, NJWA, HRL, FatBastard, etc.

One note: the section on pitch description is inaccurate, just like the description on the wiffle packaging. The curve and screwball should be swapped. Holes in for the screw, holes out for the curve. At least that’s the way we throw em.
Go grab a copy and let us know what you think.
