We figured out what to do with those empty WIFFLE Ball cartons, we realized you can reuse them as a sleeve for your hot cup of coffee. All you need to do is fold the bottom of the cardboard on the inside, next you slide it up from the bottom of the cup of your steaming cup of Joe and wallah!
This picture was taken at Common Grounds Coffee Shop in Branford, CT… near Big League’s Headquarters.
The 7th annual Britton John Broatch Memorial Wiffle Tournament was held on July 10, 2010 in Milford, CT. To learn more about Connecticut’s largest Wiffle tournament, please visit www.thebjbtournament.com
This is one of our favorite tournaments to play in and we always look forward to hanging out with the Broatch Family. Once again Doom secured the top spot.

the game of WIFFLE Ball for he and
his friends. He went on to serve as

Cool name. Not really my type of music. Kind of spacey, new wave stuff. I believe this is how one member of the band describes Wiffle: “I’m a watermelon man with a flamingo friend, and unicorn ghost who flies the indigo skies.”
That’s pretty much what they sound like. I wonder if they have any clue what wiffle ball is? Or are they just so creative to come up with such a catchy name?? We’ll probably never know. I’m guessing it’s a coincidence, since they’re from Europe/Australia. If you want to check out their music: http://www.myspace.com/wiffleband
I remember Weekly Reader from nursery school or kindergarten. The same time I was first starting to swing a wiffle ball bat. Sometime around the early to mid ’80s. At this point, I’m not quite sure exactly what it was, besides some type of developmental reading tool for young kids. If Weekly Reader had included cool articles like this when I was a kid, perhaps I would have been a little more interested in reading. Regardless, they were excited about Wiffle Ball: The Ultimate Guide, just as we were. If you need a quick reading lesson, they’ve included a little “words to know” portion at the end.
This is a picture of the Clathrus chrysomycelinus, found in Brazil by one Taylor Lockwood (picture credit to Taylor also). He seems to think it looks like a wiffle ball. Yes Taylor, I see the resemblance, but it’s more like one of those fake wiffle balls, or actually, it looks just like a Bucky Ball. Or a Bucky Lightbulb, really. For those of you who don’t know, a bucky ball is a type of geodesic dome, made popular by Mr. Richard Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller. Ie., the Epcot Center, the Montreal Biosphere. Check out more info on Bucky Fuller, and his domes.
anyway, coolest picture of a mushroom that i’ve ever seen.
Here’s an email I got from our buddy Jared, from Illinois. I think he’s from Illinois. Although, he was signed by the Risers of GSWL St. Louis. Also, here’s a sample of video from Jared. He goes by atpblues on youtube.com…check out his channel for more cool videos.
“My wiffle scene usually consists of me having to drive but there is some local leagues/tornys we can get into. Windy City Wiffle Ball League is a league i’m apart of but I just play for one of their teams I’m not an owner or a long time league member. This year me and my teammate Matt Richardson who I’ve been play wiffle with for about 6-7 years will be playing for the GSWL risers in the STL region and that starts in about a week. League wise things are hard to find which is why we have to travel to STL to get into anything really competitive but we do like our chances this year with our team in GSWL.
I mentioned leagues are hard to find but tournaments are even harder to find around here. There are only 3 tournaments I can think of that are under an hour away from us, one of which was 2 weekends ago in a 2v2 tournament where we placed 2nd. The other ones aren’t for a very long time away…I think in August. Most of the tornys around here involve either wiffle up (which is usually one per summer and 2 in STL), wiffle federation (which isn’t fast pitch its slow pitch wiffle which is like a modified HR derby but this year they have included modified pitch which is basically big league rules), and some other random tornys that have just a wide array of rules.
As far as my team goes there are only 3 of us now and thats me, Matt Richardson, and Alex Kowalcyzk. We use to be on our team called High Heat (we also have combined with another team in our area DGA with Derek Radek and Tony Dawson and played as the 630 allstars with them in some tornys). This year we were signed with a STL team run by current GSWL STL regional director Jim Powell and thats who we will be playing with this year.”
We give this kid an A for effort, and an A for his love of wiffle. However, we have to give him a D for camera work. Kind of got dizzy and light-headed after watching it a few times. Very creative and low budget scoreboard, backstop and strikezone. Highlights: the Monster and the signage.
