Sean Steffy aka WIFFLEBOY28 Si.Com and College Humor Video of the Day
By WiffleBoy28
Since the early nineteen-nineties the internet has provided us with a means of connecting with fellow wifflers across the nation. I would not be writing this article right now if it weren’t for the influence of an internet site called YouTube. I still remember back when I first began searching for “Wiffleball videos” on my parents old desktop. Soon I stumbled upon young pixilated versions of Joe Nord and Ryan Wood throwing cheddar at the 2006 NCT. From the first moment Nick T’s screwball pounded the zone I knew that I wanted to challenge them all someday. After logging hours of practice and going to a few tournaments, I discovered that video was a powerful tool that could be used to impact a person’s views on any given sport. Four years have passed since then and I now receive messages daily from people all over the US interested in the sport of Wiffleball.
A few statistics about Wiffleball videos:
Most viewed YouTube video: Sick Wiffleball Pitcher – Russ Heim (887,713 views)
Most subscribed to YouTube channel: WiffleBoy28 (1,131 subscribers)
Most viewed YouTube channel: GoldenStickWiffs (779,218 views)
If YouTube has aided in promoting wiffleball to the youth of America, then just imagine what could happen if a single Wiffle video went viral and accumulated millions of views? The wiffleball community would grow vastly and expand to every corner of the US. The question is how do you expose a YouTube video so that it becomes a multi-million view phenomenon. YouTube does offer a partnership program for any user who attains a certain degree of fame. Yet to date no wiffleball player, league or organization has been accepted as such by YouTube. My goal is to become the first Wiffler to make Partner and turn professional wiffleball into the next viral video hit. I have applied for said partnership twice now without as much as a response. But the dream lives on that someday a Wiffler will become a national symbol of athleticism and hard WORK!
Thus Wiffleball must grow and prosper in order to be taken seriously by the media.
On that note, I am off to do work with a camera!
